Paintings done in 2021
The following paintings were done in 2021.
Post Graduation
8 March 2022 I began painting again. Influenced by Hilda Af Klint I did the following painting.
I then found the following picture of Dutch tulips being grown in Holland.
This was followed by my tree painting which was done in March – April.
In April I went to Caves Beach near Newcastle with Juliet, Jeremy and Stella. The rocks were inspiring as were the water lilies.
Whilst I was at Caves Beach, I took this photo of water Lillie’s which reminds me of Monet. I then did a couple of paintings.
Flowers were inspirational in June and July 2022.
My art work continued with some work on paper using masking tape and leaves.
Then some paintings on canvas.
On 22 May 2022, I was staying with Jock and Michael at Murwillumbah. Jock and I did a painting on wood using house paints.
24 May 2022 I attended the Clyde & Co Law Firm Exhibition of paintings of recently graduated art students where two of my paintings were hung. A number of students from my year including Ali Anderson, had paintings in the exhibition.
My painting and drawing continued as inspiration came to me.
Board paintings
In July 2022, I found a board in Onslo Avenue in Elizabeth Bay on the way back from the wharf cafe at Elizabeth Bay.
This started me on a practise of painting on board and the following are the results.
In August 2022 Jock and Michael gave me some lily buds and I was asked to do a drawing or painting a day until they bloomed.
I projected the lines of this photo onto a canvas and traced the lines and then I created “Out of Africa”.
I then returned to painting on board.
I did a few small paintings on wood as Christmas presents.
Scarves
As shown above Jock and I had a sample scarf made in China .
The above were done whilst I was recovering from a back operation but I then returned to painting on canvas. I had developed the practice of using a projector to create my compositions when I was at NAS. Using an image I had developed through procreate I painted “Out of Africa” as seen above.
Vegetation Series
In January 2023 I continued the botanical theme and did two paintings by placing flowers and leaves on the canvas and using a spray can with acrylic paint to create the out lines for the ultimate composition.
I collected some fresh leaves and twigs from Embarkation Park and placed them between the pages of a drawing pad. Over the period of a couple of weeks, as the plants dried out the paper creased and this provided me with the foundation on which I drew and painted the following series.
Tree Series
The vegetation series was followed by a tree series. Each of the following paintings were prepared by my deviding the canvas into three sections and painting each in different colours. I then projected on to the canvas a photograph of a tree which exhibited negative spaces. I traced the lines of the negative spaces onto the canvas and this created the composition. I have called the series “Lightness of Being”-
